Identification:
  • Toothed opposite leafes and tiny yellow flowers that come off of a long spike.
  • Size: 0.5-2 meters tall
  • Yellow flowers come out in mid to late summer and have 5 tiny petals.
Adaptation:
  • Pollinated seeds develop into burs which attach to the coats of grazing animals or clothes of humans and are carried great distances.
  • This pland has both male and female parts and can be pollinated by bees, flies, or by itself.
  • The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils.The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. and can grow in very alkaline soils. It can grow in semi-shade (light woodland) or no shade.It requires dry or moist soil.
  • This is a perennial flower which means that its seeds can overwinter in the ground and germinate in the spring when conditions are right.
