Eastern Amber-winged dragonfly

Identification:
  • Small for a dragonfly. Only ~3/4- 1 inch in length and ~11/2 inches in wingspan
  • Amber colored wings
  • Usually found in sunshine and close to water

Adaptation:
  • The Amberwing had up to 30 thousand facets on their rounded eyes which allows it to see neatly 360degrees to prevent predation.
  • They are extremely nimble flyers and can reach up to 38 mph.
  • They have been known to fly up to 85 miles in a day in pursuit of ideal habitat.
  • Nymphs settle into mucky water bottoms to overwinter.
